This drawing depicts a giant looming faceless figure. Sat on a mountain side at the foot of a seaside town. He is casting a line from his giant rod and catching a man in a suit, as the tiny towns people go about their daily business. This piece considers those pushed to society’s margins. People labelled, excluded, or unable to conform to the standards imposed on them. When society is viewed under the microscope, the act of casting a metaphorical line to entice the vulnerable becomes a commentary on how addiction takes root. The work underscores that addiction is not simply a fringe issue but a reflection of the societal conditions that help sustain it.

Original abstract landscape inspired by the historical paper Mills in Rathfarnham Dublin Ireland. Using the sense of an impressionist painting I've incorporated abstract painting techniques of markings, drips and splashes to arrive at a lively yet serene landscape representative of the landscape at a time when paper Mills produced wallpaper for the Indigenous market. My mother grew up in a former mill owners house and told me stories of finding beautiful remnants of wallpaper in the mill tunnels under the grounds.

Inspiration for this work came from the animals of Ireland, quiet and observant, living close to humans yet remaining a part of their hidden world. The image of the fox becomes a symbol of caution, attentiveness and natural freedom. Its presence is both subtle and confident, reflecting the inner state of the artist. The forest and its inhabitants unfold as a metaphor for personal space where one can feel harmony, renewal and belonging. The contrast between the concealed, mysterious world of nature and the artist’s inner calm creates a deep emotional layer that connects the outer image with personal experience. The use of gold or copper tones emphasizes the sacred quality of the image, strengthens its symbolic meaning and links the figure of the fox with natural energy, making it a guardian of quiet places and delicate states of the soul.

The title ‘Subatomic Void’ comes from thinking about how small we are and how huge everything around us is. I’m drawn to the Wicklow mountains because they make that feeling real, solid ground under me, endless space above. Standing there, I’m caught between something tiny and something vast, and it hits me how strange it is to exist at all. This painting comes from that mix of awe and unease, trying to hold both feelings in the same place.

Employing Human skin tone sets, Jago digitally reconfigures analytical colour charts onto silky fabrics. Through a considered, multi-stage process, these compositions are translated into oil paintings, each titled Us in a different world language. The resulting works articulate a visual language of interconnection and equality, prompting reflection on the constructed nature of difference and the positive potential for shared human experience.

Once part of Sardinia’s thriving salt industry, the structure now sits silent and abandoned under the intense summer sky. I was drawn to its stark geometry and stillness, where traces of human activity remain only in the bus stop at its side. The painting reflects on memory, abandonment, and the quiet persistence of place.

But this plant is a crucial food plant for the caterpillars of various butterfly species: Red Admiral, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and Comma feed on its essential nutrients and enjoy protection from predators, unaffected by the nettle's stinging hairs.
